By the Bog of Cats by Marina Carr

A loose retelling of the Greek myth of Medea and set in a dreary Irish bog, By the Bog of Cats follows an Irish traveler named Hester Swann whose lover has abandoned her to marry a younger woman in order to gain her father’s land. Just like Medea, Hester seeks vengeance on the world that has repeatedly discarded and abandoned her. What follows is a mystical story about motherhood, betrayal, and ownership told with mythological force.
