Reports to: Production Manager and Projections Designer

The Projections Assistant will be responsible for overseeing the production and execution of all multimedia elements for the given production. They will work closely with the Projections Designer to plan, shoot, and implement any video aspects for the production. No prior experience is required!

There is not currently an STA Agreement for this position type; however, the scope of this position is outlined below. A specific contract outlining the position will be created prior to hiring, and as such this description is subject to change.

  • Pre-Production
    • Thoroughly read the script and gain an understanding of the play.
    • Meet with the director and producer to establish the needs for the show and discuss the timeline.
    • Establish a plan for any shoots that will take place during the process and create a budget proposal.
    • Create a plan for securing equipment from any Emerson outlets that provide film production equipment (EDC, MTP, etc.).
    • Secure any permits or permissions required by the College to shoot or create the planned elements.
    • Assist the producer in securing the projection equipment required to properly execute the multimedia elements.
    • Work with the scenic and lighting designers to ensure that projections are considered in the design process.
  • Production
    • Shoot or create the elements that will be implemented into the production.
    • Oversee the editing process and final delivery of the finished product.
    • Work with the producer and electrician on the production to ensure that projector hanging positions are accounted for in the venue.
    • Be present at load-in and technical rehearsals to execute the projection design and ensure that it is aligned with the director’s vision of the show.
    • Work with the producer to ensure an operator is present for all performances, or if needed serve as the operator during performances.
  • Preferred qualifications
    • Experience in film or media production
    • Knowledge of camera operation and execution
    • Understanding of shot and film composition
    • Knowledge of video editing software (Premiere Pro, Final Cut, etc.)
    • Experience working with QLab is preferred
    • Experience working with theatrical projections is preferred
    • Access to the Equipment Distribution Center is preferred but not required
    • Ability to lift 20 pounds is preferred
